WS014: Aimes & Perdido Key – Hell Hole EP w/ rmxs from Pin Up Club and Magnus International

WS014 - Aimes & Perdido Key

WS014 – Aimes & Perdido Key

Wonder Stories boss man Aimes and frequent collaborators Perdido Key team up once again for a gritty and slightly off-kilter EP. Although right at home for Perdido Key, Hell Hole and La Pretora show a darker territory over Aimes’ usual polished disco sound. The stripped back tracks show an effort to do more with less, mostly featuring one bass synth, one lead synth, and drums. On remix duties we have Pin Up Club from Amsterdam and Norwegian ace Magnus International.

WS011: AIMES & James Rod – Touch / Journey To Jupiter

Wonder Stories mainstay AIMES links up with Spanish space disco don James Rod for a split EP of cosmic goodness. Each offering up an original track, plus a remix for the other, the EP’s common ground can be heard in the arp’d baselines and spacey synths.

Flying Men – Only Love EPs

A few months ago we covered the excellent ‘Loading EP’ by Silver City, released on Catune Records. Now Catune is back with a couple of very solid releases from ‘Flying Men’, which consists of Japan based UK Balearic power house Max Essa and Italian legends Leo Mas and Fabrice. The pair of 12″s are drenched in sunny Balearic vibes and with a touch of acid perfect for the dance floor. Stream below and don’t sleep on on Catune’s future releases.

Perdido Key – Modificación EP

Out today is a new EP from Wonder Stories’ homies Perdido Key. You may have caught their debut EP released by us last month, which you can check out here. Now, the illusive NYC duo drops a banging left field EP with the illustrious NEIN Records. Two pleasantly weird and dance floor friendly originals are accompanied by a trio of remixes from Gameboyz (Spain), Sequencers (MEX), and Discordance (UK). The lead track is a wonky, chugging house number with a start/stop feel and great atmosphere. The B-side is a romping techno monster full of peak time acid and a demonic bass line. Available now here.

WS008: Perdido Key – Lost Is Found

Perdido Key Lost Is Found

We are incredibly excited to share Perdido Key‘s debut EP ‘Lost Is Found’.  Available now: https://pro.beatport.com/release/lost-is-found/1497482

Lost in depths of New York City’s underground club scene, you’ll find two producers collecting fragments of inspiration in the oddest places. On any night of the week you might find them raving in an abandoned Chinese restaurant or spinning records in one of Brooklyn’s many illegal DIY venues. The duo has channeled their inspirations into the studio, crafting analog heavy left-field house and techno designed for sweaty basements and dark warehouses.

Their debut EP ‘Lost Is Found’ shows them digging into the deeper and weirder side of dance music while still keeping an affinity to precise melodies and four on the flour rhythms. The EP’s title track is a dark and enigmatic house cut with a jacking beat and a deep ambiance. The following two tracks, ‘I’m Free’ and ‘Rat Acid’, are a pair of peak time techno cuts full of enigmatic rhythms and bouncy acid lines. Joining the release are a couple of remixes from Earl Grey and William Earl, both haling from the UK and of no relation. Earl Grey takes ‘Lost Is Found’ and tweaks it into a bouncy, understated, and sublimely deep house cut, while William Earl tackles ‘I’m Free’ with a slowed down and ghoulish chugging rework.

Paraphernalia: an Introduction to Mild Peril

Christopher Gilbert makes retro leaning and faux new age cosmic music. By Faux new age I mean his music could easily be mistaken for something Manuel Göttsching or Tangerine Dream was doing in the 70s. His bandcamp has a huge catalog of cosmic synth wave and is definitely worth a listen.

Tronik Youth – Splinter of the Mind’s Eye

NEIN Records label boss Tronik Youth has just released a splendid new single entitled ‘Splinter of the Mind’s Eye’. NEIN Records is notorious for fronting the UK’s portion of the slo-mo acidic chug movement pioneered by the likes of Andrew Weatherall and Daniele Baldelli & DJ Rocca (to name just a couple) and the release stays true to these roots. The original is a chugging dark-disco slow burner with hints of electro and acid and is complemented by a slew of similar but different, and totally outstanding, remixes by Dark Strands, Los Lopez, Two Mammarrachos,  and Peza. Out now, have a listen below or snag it off iTunes here.

AIMES – Pacific Pearlcast 008

To help celebrate the Mazatlan, Mexico DJ collective Pacific Pearl Music’s one year anniversary, AIMES has put together an hour and twenty minute long mix of spatial and balearic disco. Free DL, enjoy.

Daniele Baldelli & DJ Rocca – Kachiri EP

Out today is an EP from a couple of legends. As Italy’s answer to NYC’s Mancuso and Larry Levan, Daniele Baldelli & DJ Rocca helped shape the left-field Cosmic/ Balearic scene and influence numerous artist. Their mutli-genre DJ sets in the 70s and 80s impacted their own productions that would come later in the 90s. Fast forward several years and the duo is still making forward thinking cosmic music. Their new EP is stays true to their sound, bringing a tinge of other-worldy weirdness and just a touch of dark funk. Out now on NEIN Records.

Bonus: Check out Daniele Baldelli’s RBMA lecture here.

Silver City – Loading EP

Julian Sanza + Fernando Pulichino make up the duo that is Silver City. They have been making balearic drenched disco since around 2002 and helped to define the genre with notable release on 2020 Vision and Under The Shade. Their soon to be released new EP ‘Loading’ stays true to their roots with a four track vinyl of vibey goodness. ‘Ride Away’ is the stand out track, one that gives chills and provokes thoughts of sunny afternoons driving along the coastline with the top down. Out soon on the Japanese label Catune. Available for pre order here.
