WS015: Steve Cook – Notice Me EP w/ remixes from Pop District and Aimes

Steve Cook - Notice Me

After a killer remix for FLXXX’s ‘Zombie Land’ on WS013, Steve Cook is back on Wonder Stories with his own EP. The lead track ‘Notice Me’ is a drugged-out mid-tempo burner with tribal drums and cut up diva vocals. Accompanying ‘Notice Me’ is a pair of remixes, one from Toronto-based producer Pop District, and another from Wonder Stories label head Aimes. Rounding out the EP is another Steve Cook original ‘Drifted’ which is eager to offer up the dark and brooding side of Steve’s productions.

WS014: Aimes & Perdido Key – Hell Hole EP w/ rmxs from Pin Up Club and Magnus International

WS014 - Aimes & Perdido Key

WS014 – Aimes & Perdido Key

Wonder Stories boss man Aimes and frequent collaborators Perdido Key team up once again for a gritty and slightly off-kilter EP. Although right at home for Perdido Key, Hell Hole and La Pretora show a darker territory over Aimes’ usual polished disco sound. The stripped back tracks show an effort to do more with less, mostly featuring one bass synth, one lead synth, and drums. On remix duties we have Pin Up Club from Amsterdam and Norwegian ace Magnus International.

AIMES – Dirtbox EP

Out today is a new EP from NYC’s AIMES on Mexico City based label Trafico Music. This EP shows a departure from AIMES usual, into a left-field house conglomerate with two original tracks designed for the weirder moments on the dance floor plus two stellar remixes from Mexico City’s Juan Soto (Electrique Music) and NYC’s Tunnel Signs (Have A Killer Time / Clouded Vision).

NYC meets Mexico City for stellar results. Listen and Download…

Perdido Key – Modificación EP

Out today is a new EP from Wonder Stories’ homies Perdido Key. You may have caught their debut EP released by us last month, which you can check out here. Now, the illusive NYC duo drops a banging left field EP with the illustrious NEIN Records. Two pleasantly weird and dance floor friendly originals are accompanied by a trio of remixes from Gameboyz (Spain), Sequencers (MEX), and Discordance (UK). The lead track is a wonky, chugging house number with a start/stop feel and great atmosphere. The B-side is a romping techno monster full of peak time acid and a demonic bass line. Available now here.

WS008: Perdido Key – Lost Is Found

Perdido Key Lost Is Found

We are incredibly excited to share Perdido Key‘s debut EP ‘Lost Is Found’.  Available now: https://pro.beatport.com/release/lost-is-found/1497482

Lost in depths of New York City’s underground club scene, you’ll find two producers collecting fragments of inspiration in the oddest places. On any night of the week you might find them raving in an abandoned Chinese restaurant or spinning records in one of Brooklyn’s many illegal DIY venues. The duo has channeled their inspirations into the studio, crafting analog heavy left-field house and techno designed for sweaty basements and dark warehouses.

Their debut EP ‘Lost Is Found’ shows them digging into the deeper and weirder side of dance music while still keeping an affinity to precise melodies and four on the flour rhythms. The EP’s title track is a dark and enigmatic house cut with a jacking beat and a deep ambiance. The following two tracks, ‘I’m Free’ and ‘Rat Acid’, are a pair of peak time techno cuts full of enigmatic rhythms and bouncy acid lines. Joining the release are a couple of remixes from Earl Grey and William Earl, both haling from the UK and of no relation. Earl Grey takes ‘Lost Is Found’ and tweaks it into a bouncy, understated, and sublimely deep house cut, while William Earl tackles ‘I’m Free’ with a slowed down and ghoulish chugging rework.

Death By Repetition Guest Mix 32 – Perdido Key

Wonder Stories fam Perdido Key drops a guest mix for UK blog Death By Repetition mix full of acid touched, chugging dark-balearic gems. The mix is full of unreleased goodies and is definitely worth a listen.

AIMES – The Marius Tresor EP feat. Brassica

Out today is an EP from AIMES on the UK vinyl only label Rothmans, entitled ‘The Marius Tresor EP’, after the famous French footballer (Soccer for us Yanks). The lead cut, Tunnel Down, is a mid tempo acid secret weapon that delivers a punch. An aggressive bass line, cutting arpeggios, and hypnotic redundancy makes for perfect underground sleaze. One the B side Brassica transforms Tunnel Down into a monster of a remix adding mesmerizing melodies, a stunning sense of atmosphere, and chord changes that wouldn’t be out of place in a 70’s Miles Davis cut. It’s no wonder that the record is already receiving support from the likes of Bicep, Tusk Wax, and Posthuman, to name a few. Out today and you can grab the vinyl here.

Tronik Youth – Splinter of the Mind’s Eye

NEIN Records label boss Tronik Youth has just released a splendid new single entitled ‘Splinter of the Mind’s Eye’. NEIN Records is notorious for fronting the UK’s portion of the slo-mo acidic chug movement pioneered by the likes of Andrew Weatherall and Daniele Baldelli & DJ Rocca (to name just a couple) and the release stays true to these roots. The original is a chugging dark-disco slow burner with hints of electro and acid and is complemented by a slew of similar but different, and totally outstanding, remixes by Dark Strands, Los Lopez, Two Mammarrachos,  and Peza. Out now, have a listen below or snag it off iTunes here.

WS007: AIMES – Harmonique Cosmique EP

For the first official release of 2015 Wonder Stories is excited to present AIMES‘ Harmonique Cosmique EP. Designed as a somewhat concept EP, it includes four versions for four types of dance floors. The ‘Disco Version’ is a feel good nu disco romper with hints of italo and classic disco, meant for an early in the night fun and funky dance floor. As the night grows longer, the ‘Late Night Version’ cranks things up a notch, channeling 80s ‘out run’ vibes with dark and sinister sentiment, while the ‘AM Version’ is an adventurous peak time techno cut. To round out the EP we have the ‘Beach Version’, perfect for the laid back sunset (or sunrise) set, meant to be played while sipping a drink with an umbrella in it.

To say thanks for listening we wanted to give away a little something so enjoy the Disco version for free and you can grab the rest of the EP here: tinyurl.com/obcxuub

Big thanks to the early supporters Satin jackets, Tensnake, Alkalino, Chordashian, Disko Selectors, Walter Jones to name a few. :0

Wonder Stories 006: AIMES – Burnin’ ft. Javi EP

Fresh off the success of AIMES’ summer hit Burnin’, we are excited to release the official remix package which includes remixes from Auxiliary tha Masterfader, Rocco Desentis, Tronik Youth, Copycat, and Perdido Key.

Burnin’, which features vocals from NYC’s Javi (Crosstown Rebels, Under The Shade), saw widespread support from DJs, press from the likes of Thump, DJ Magazine, Earmilk, and received radio play by Annie Nightingale on BBC Radio 1.

Dutch disco kingpin Auxiliary tha Masterfader reworks the original into a 1980s break dance cut, while Tronik Youth digs a little deeper with a chugging and sleazy techno mix. Rocco Desentis brings a bit of Mexican suaveness with his unmistakable hybrid of funky techno. Copycat lightens things up a bit with a belaearic-esque nu disco groover, and Perdido Key rounds out the EP with a stripped down acid cut, designed for pummeling dark NYC basements.
